Garage storage puts safety, floor access and retrieval ahead of maximum density. Clear the route to the door and the vehicle, group equipment by activity — DIY, garden, sport, car care — keep heavy and hazardous items low and controlled, and use the walls only with fixings rated for the load. Anything sensitive to damp or temperature swings does not belong in a detached garage.

The order of work

  1. Open a safe working strip and remove waste, empty boxes and abandoned projects.
  2. Zone by activity so a task can be started and finished without moving unrelated stacks.
  3. Put bikes on wall hooks or a floor stand, off the route, with a ground anchor and a rated lock if the garage is the main store.
  4. Label closed containers with contents and the date of the last review.
